PHYLLANTHUS
AMARUS A GREAT LIVER DRUG.
Phyllanthus amarus is a branching annual glabrous herb 30-60 cm
high with slender, spreading leaf-bearing branchlets: leaves
numerous, distichous, subsessile, elliptic-oblong, obtuse, base
rounded; flowers yellowish, greenish or whitish, axillary, males
in groups of 1-3, females solitary; fruits depressed-globose
smooth capsules underneath the branches, seeds trigonous, pale
brown with longitudinal parallel ribs on the back. The plant is
distributed throughout India, as a weed in cultivated and waste
lands.
The whole plant is used for the preparation of Homeopathic Mother
Tincture. It is highly acclaimed as a liver-remedy. It is
clinically observed that Phyllanthus amarus is an very effective
drug for viral hepatitis, liver disorders, and for chronic hepatic
disorders. It is also a good remedy for hepatitis-B and needs long
term use.
Chemical compounds:Phyllanthus amarus contains
seco-isolariciresinol trimethyl ether, ent-norsecurinine,
seco-4-hydroxylintetralin, hydroxyniranthin, dibenzylbutyrolactone,
linnanthin, hypophyllanthin, lintetralin, 4-methoxynorsecurinine
