TRIBULIS TERRESTRIS - A DRUG FOR CHRONIC CYSTITIS.
Tribulus terrestris L.-Zygophyllaceae is an annual prostrate herb
with many slender, spreading branches and silky-villous young
parts; leaves abruptly simple, pinnate, opposite, leaflets almost
sessile, rounded or oblique at the base, mucronate at the apex,
flowers bright yellow, solitary, pseudo-axillary or leaf-opposed;
fruits, a 5-angled or winged spinous tuberculate woody schizocap,
separating into five cocci, each coccus having two long, stiff,
sharp divaricate spines towards the distal half and two shorter
ones nearer the base; seeds one or more in each coccus. It is
distributed throughout India as a weed along roadsides and waste
places.
The whole plant is used for the preparation of Homeopathic Mother
Tincture. The action of the drug is clinically verified on chronic
cystitis difficult and painful urination burning pain while
urination scanty urination with edema etc., and found it is
effective in curing the chronic cystitis.
Chemical compounds:Trubulus terrestris contains kaempferol,
quercetin, neohecogenin glucoside, tribulosin, tigogenin,
hecogenin, gitogenin, diosgenin, ruscogenin, dihydroxy
spirosteroidal sapogenin, terrestroside etc.
